Contribute to the exhibition: Creative Resource 2006
The design and development of materials made from waste
Jakki Dehn
08-09-2005
While running her own furniture design and manufacture business for over 20 years, Jakki has also judged acclaimed design competitions and taught and lectured in Austria, France, Australia, America, China and Japan as well as the UK. Since 1991 Jakki has held the post of Senior Lecturer in Product and Furniture Design at Kingston University at Kingston University allowing an increased commitment to significant research in the field of Sustainable Design.

When: late 2006
Where: Kingston University London

With a strong personal and professional interest in recycled materials she designed, built and curated the notable travelling exhibition Re:materialise, 1996 (www.rematerialise.org). This research into furniture and product designers’ impact on the environment, materials made from waste, and the unique library of sustainable material samples has initiated considerable industry interest, leading to major collaborations between the Kingston University Product Design students and IKEA, Lloyd Loom, LEGO and Transport for London.

Now in receipt of an AHRC research award, Jakki is director of Creative Resource, a three year internationally-focussed research programme culminating in a travelling exhibition and publication in late 2006.

Funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, led by Jakki Dehn, Senior Lecturer in Product and Furniture Design,
Kingston University is looking specifically at the development of recycled materials and the role of design in the sustainable production of products.

Those involved with developing materials and products and are interested in contribution to the exhibition Creative Resource 2006, please contact Lulu Dryer (L.Dyer@kingston.ac.uk)
