Alireza Parandian (TU Delft NanoNed) set out a vision for a future with Nanotechnology, its promise in terms of applications in for example health care, which may have huge impacts on sustainability and quality of life issues we are faced with today. Besides, he shed light on general perils and concerns that are associated with the future applications of nanotechnologies. Louis Neven (University of Twente) also discussed the importance of visions in the innovation process. He did so by showing some of the functions that a vision of a technology can fulfil in the early stages of the innovation process. This was based on his work on images of users in visions of Ambient Intelligence technologies, which is part of his PhD research.
